Dry Card – Thomson’s pattern – Lord Kelvin/Sir William Thomson

Original light-weight compass card with eight magnet needles designed by Thomson (1824 – 1907), born in Belfast, the later Lord Kelvin, in 1876. The needles are attatched with 32 silk threads to the edge. In use by the Royal Navy and other navies. Complete with cap and point in orginal box. Provenance Datema, Delfzijl.
