Dirk Antoon Teupken Jr. – The Brig Amsterdam, 1851
Attractive and very detailed gouache of the brig Amsterdam by the well known marine painter Teupkens. It is one of the better works of Teupkens. In the foreground the brig in rough weather, seen on the port side. In the background an image of the starboard side and one with the poop. In the foremast flies the flag of the College Zeemanshoop with number 289. The register of Zeemanshoop on Muntplein 10 in Amsterdam, indicates that this number belonged to captain J.G. de Jong at that time.
The brig is a two-master, square rigged with two or more foresails and a fore-sail on the aft mast, the brig sail.
