This part of the collection mainly comprises objects with a connection to the sea. Figure heads, folk art, travelling trunks, Delft tiles and so on.

Extremely rare album with 10 etchings on hand made paper and a portrait of Bakhuizen in mezzotint with calligraphed title: d’Ystroom en Zeegezichten, geteekend en geetst door Ludolf Bakhuizen Anno 1701. The title page repeats the calligraphed title with additions: d’Ystroom en Zeegezichten, geteekend en geetst door Ludolf Bakhuizen Anno 1701 in Amsterdam (the Ystroom and Seascapes, drawn and etched by Ludolf Bakhuizen Anno 1701 in Amsterdam) Below of that, ‘met Privil: van de Hoog Mog: Heeren Staten General’ and  ‘out 71 jaar’.

The etchings from the hand of Holland’s most important marine painter, made at the age of 71, is generally in good condition. Cover with cartouche and binding are from a later date. Dimensions cover 41 x 33.5 cm. Uncut margins, strong prints. The endpaper with watermark of papermaker E.V. Oorspronk, the other sheets with the heraldic figure of Amsterdam as watermark. The pages are just legibly numbered in pencil B1 to B10.

Cover front and back of cardboard with marbled paper, the corners and back of leather or parchment. The cover is held together with two ribbons.

The first etching after that of Bakhuizen, the allegory of Neptune riding on a triumphal chariot, which is supposed to depict the maritime power of Amsterdam in the 18th century, is 195 x 257 mm. The others are approximately 177 x 237 mm.

Condition: overall very good, the etchings are slightly bumpy due to the effect of moisture
